What does the Unit treat?
The Breast Tumors Unit of HM CIOCC is a national reference due to the volume of patients attended and its research focused on neoadjuvant (pre-surgical) treatment, that is, treatment administered before surgery to reduce tumor size and facilitate its removal, or to eliminate cancer cells that may have spread, for the different tumor subtypes.

How do we approach it at HM Hospitals?
Surgery
Removal of the tumor and, in some cases, nearby lymph nodes. In selected cases, robotic surgery may be considered, which is evaluated individually.
Chemotherapy
Use of drugs to destroy cancer cells.
Radiotherapy
High-energy radiation is applied to destroy cancer cells.
Targeted therapies
Administration of drugs that specifically attack cancer cells with certain genetic mutations.
Immunotherapy
Use of drugs that stimulate the immune system to attack cancer cells.
