What is traumatology and orthopedic surgery?

Traumatology is the medical specialty that focuses on the care of your musculoskeletal system, which includes bones, joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. At HM Hospitales, we treat a wide range of conditions, from fractures and sprains to sports injuries, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, and congenital deformities.

Comprehensive approach

Our traumatologists provide you with personalized care, taking into account your medical history, lifestyle and your specific injury or disease. To ensure accurate diagnoses, we use advanced imaging technology, such as X-rays, MRI, CT scans, and ultrasounds. In addition, we work closely with other specialties, such as physical therapy, rehabilitation, rheumatology, and orthopedic surgery, to provide you with a comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Diagnostic techniques

To make an accurate diagnosis, we use various techniques. We perform blood tests to detect infections, inflammations, and other disorders that may affect the musculoskeletal system. We use X-rays, the most common imaging technique for evaluating fractures, dislocations, and other bone injuries. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides detailed images of soft tissues, such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, and cartilage, allowing for the diagnosis of injuries such as tears, sprains, and tendinitis. In addition, computed tomography (CT) provides detailed images of bones and joints, allowing for the diagnosis of complex fractures, bone tumors, and other conditions. Ultrasound scans allow for the evaluation of soft tissues in real time, which is useful for diagnosing muscle, tendon, and ligament injuries, as well as for guiding procedures such as injections. Finally, bone scans are used to detect infections, tumors, and other diseases that affect the bones.

Treatments

For knee surgeries, we have the latest robotic surgery technology with the Rosa Knee and MAKO systems. The Rosa Knee system uses sensors and cameras to create a 3D model of the patient’s knee, allowing surgeons to plan the procedure with great precision and customize the placement of the implants. On the other hand, the MAKO system uses a robotic arm controlled by the surgeon to make precise cuts in the bone and place the implants with great accuracy. These advanced techniques allow us to perform interventions with greater precision and personalization, resulting in better outcomes, less postoperative pain, and a faster recovery. Additionally, to ensure optimal recovery of your mobility and quality of life, we offer personalized rehabilitation programs.

If you have recently been experiencing mobility problems, do not hesitate to contact us and trust our team to help you regain your quality of life.
