What is thoracic surgery?

At HM Hospitales, the thoracic surgery department specializes in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases such as lung cancer, pneumothorax, emphysema, lung infections, and mediastinal diseases. Additionally, we approach the disease through a comprehensive support model, from diagnosis through recovery.

Specialized procedures

Our team of thoracic surgeons prioritizes minimally invasive techniques whenever possible. Thanks to our robotic approach, we’re able to perform surgeries with greater precision and safety. We have extensive experience in tracheal surgery and laser treatment of lung metastases, as well as in pulmonary procedures and mediastinal surgery, which addresses conditions affecting the mediastinum, the vital space between the lungs that contains the heart, major blood vessels, trachea, and esophagus. We also perform surgeries for chest wall deformities, locally advanced lung cancer, and palmaraxillary hyperhidrosis, a condition that causes excessive sweating in the palms and underarms.

Technological innovation

For complex procedures, such as mediastinal surgery and colon and rectal surgery, we use the Da Vinci robot, which provides high-definition 3D visualization and exceptional dexterity, enabling our surgeons to perform complex operations with millimeter-level precision. In addition, we are equipped with a 6K visualization tower, a state-of-the-art surgical imaging system that delivers images with exceptional clarity and detail. This advanced technology, especially valuable in major lung resections, improves accuracy, optimizing outcomes for our patients.
