Liposonix high-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU)

What is Liposonix high-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU)?

Liposonix high-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) is a non-invasive procedure that uses high-intensity focused ultrasound energy to permanently destroy subcutaneous fat cells in specific areas of the body. Ultrasound energy passes through the skin without damaging it and concentrates on fat cells, destroying them through heat. The body naturally eliminates the destroyed fat cells over time.

What is this diagnostic procedure for?

Liposonix high-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) is primarily used in:

  • Localized fat reduction: Reducing fat in specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, flanks, thighs, and arms.
  • Body shaping: Improving the body contour and reducing cellulite.

Benefits of advanced technology in LIFU

Liposonix high-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) offers a number of key benefits thanks to the technology it employs:

  • Non-invasive: It is a non-invasive procedure that does not require surgery, incisions, or anesthesia.
  • Permanent results: It permanently destroys fat cells, offering long-term results.
  • Rapid treatment: Each session usually lasts between 30 and 60 minutes.

No downtime: There is no downtime, which means you can resume your normal activities immediately after the procedure.

What does the procedure involve?

The Liposonix high-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) procedure is generally performed as follows:

  • Preparation:

You will be asked to remove any jewelry or metal accessories from the area to be treated. Photographs will be taken of the area to be treated to document the results.

  • During the procedure:

You will lie comfortably on a treatment table. A conductive gel will be applied to the skin of the area to be treated. A handheld device will be used to deliver high-intensity focused ultrasound pulses to the area being treated. You will feel heat and a tingling sensation during the treatment.

  • After the procedure:

You can resume your normal activities immediately after the procedure. You may experience redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treated area, but these symptoms usually disappear within a few days. The results of the treatment are usually visible within 8 to 12 weeks.

Recommendations for the procedure

Remember that it is important to adhere to the following recommendations to ensure the quality of the test and your comfort:

  • Inform your doctor: If you are pregnant or have any medical condition, mention it before the procedure.
  • Avoid certain medications: You may need to avoid taking certain medications before the procedure, such as blood thinners. Follow your doctor’s instructions.
  • Maintain a healthy diet: Maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly to optimize treatment results.

Are there any risks?

Liposonix high-intensity focused ultrasound (LIFU) is generally safe, but like any medical procedure, there are some minimal risks to consider:

  • Redness, swelling, or tenderness: You may experience redness, swelling, or tenderness in the treated area.
  • Bruising: Bruising may appear in the treated area.
  • Pain: Some people may experience pain during or after the treatment.
  • Burns: In rare cases, burns may occur on the skin.
  • Scars: In rare cases, scars may form on the skin.

To ensure your procedure runs smoothly, we ask that you arrive before the scheduled time. This will allow us to complete the necessary administrative and clinical preparation.

Before the procedure, we will give you the Informed Consent form, a document with important information that you must read and sign.

If your appointment is for an MRI, it is crucial that you inform us about the presence of pacemakers, metallic objects, prostheses (including dental prostheses), tattoos, or drug infusion devices such as insulin pumps.

These diagnostic tests are very safe, but as with any medical procedure, there is still the unlikely possibility of an incident.
